Those officers and ranks of the law enforcing agencies, who laid their lives in war on terror are honoured in all possible way. Their families received ‘Shaheed’ packages. In some cases, their services are kept continued and are treated as if they are alive. Their promotions and increments are kept continued till the time of superannuation. They are eligible to live in the official residences and the children of the ‘Shaheed’ are being educated in befitting institutions. The families of offices thus martyred, are provided with staff cars from the pool of the department. In short, their families enjoy all facilities except the absence of their loved ones.
The Ruler of Swat State, Miangul Jahanzeb did the same for his officers and soldiers who lost lives in Kashmir war of 1948. Whatever we see today in Pakistan, were done by the State some seventy three years ago. Some seventy soldiers and officers were martyred in that war of liberation. The State Government continued to pay their families as they received before.
I am quoting some examples that I personally observed. I had a class fellow in Shagai School, Saidu Sharif. His name was Mohammad Shamon. His father, Abdul Latif, was a sepoy in the State Malitia. He embraced ‘Shahadath’ in Kashmir war of 1948. Shamon was then very young and had not started schooling. So the widow was paid twice yearly, the ‘Barath’ of her husband, in kind of wheat, maize and paddies regularly. Mohammad Shamon passed his matric in 1958 and was given a job in Saidu Sharif as Laboratory Helper. After getting proper training, he was promoted as Laboratory Technician. He was very intelligent and started a first aid medical/technical clinic in Saidu Sharif Bazar. He can still be seen in his shop, active as usual and leads a honourable life.
Another example is of a soldier whose name I am just missing now, martyred at Kashmir. He left three sons. They were also continuously paid their father’s emoluments. Two of them namely Jaffar Sadiq and Mohammad Sadiq, succeeded in getting higher education and served in various capacities in Education Department, reached the posts of District Education Officers and Principals and honorably retired per age limits. They are from village Ghalegay, Tehsil Barikot.
