Miangul Jahanzeb, Wali Sahib had passion for education, unmatched and unlimited. It looked as if had a three points agenda before him, i.e., Education, Health and Communications. The same as mentioned was the serial of priority.
Once he sanctioned construction of forty primary schools in various villages of the State. When they were completed and the enrollment started upto class 4th, he ordered the upgradation of these newly constructed schools to middle standard and so work was started on the upper storey immediately after calling competitive tenders.
In a far flung village of Marghazar valley, two teachers were deputed to teach the local kids. They tried to persuade the parents to send their children to the school opened in the mosque. Only two kids came to learn. After a while one left the school and only one student remained. One of the teachers came to Saidu and presented himself to the Wali, requesting him for posting somewhere else. Wali Sahib asked him to go back and remain there, teaching one student in turn. He told the teacher that a day would come when you will request for more teachers, as the number of pupils would have been increased.
There was one student in class 8th of Middle School, Kalam. When he passed that class, his father refused him for supporting his studies in Behrain or other parts of the State. Wali Sahib got the information and upgraded the school to High status for that only one student.
Another example of his love for spreading the light of education and providing facilities to the staff and students is related as under.
High School Daggar was constructed at a point accessible to the surrounding villages of Ealai, Krapa and Daggar village. Teachers were mostly from proper Swat. Therefore a residential colony was constructed for the non-local staff. One day as Wali Sahib was on tour of Buner, which included a hunting sport at Nanser which was a game reserve. He, without prior information, went to Middle School Nanser. The staff was surprised with this unexpected visit of the Ruler. He met the staff and asked if they had any problem.
The Head Master, Mr. Bakhtiar Khan submitted that they are facing problem of water supply in the school. Now the area was notorious for shortage of water for many years. Wali Sahib, on his return to Saidu Sharif ordered the head of the Store P.W.D, to depute an official and select a point for open well at the school. When the State official arrived there and asked the Head Master’s opinion about the dug well, who said that they were in immediate need of water and the dug well would take time, so a pipeline be extended from Kinger Galai springs to the school. The official conveyed his wish to his officer, who reported it to Wali Sahib. The very next day, four thousand feet pipes were transported to the school and the problem was solved within a week time.
Now if I say a word of praise for that great man, some people get sick in the stomach.
