Never Ever Dream Again (Autobiography of Fazal Raziq Shahab) Part 32

My life was not an easy merry go affair. There were times when I was about to blow up my skull. But providence intervened and I stayed alive, facing all odds. As I have mentioned somewhere that when the downfall of old Afsar Abad started, people of low cross section of society succeeded in getting accommodation where previously men of honour and power lived. A lower staff member of the State’s office also shifted to our neighborhood. He was a mysterious character. All evils personified in him including booze, women, parties, dancing girls. I wondered how he afford all these extravaganza. He had a meager pay, no property or other source of income but he threw lavish parties.  Among his regular visitors was the clerical staff of P.A. Malakand, who had great edge on the neighboring States.

Anyhow, time went on smoothly as far I was concerned. One day, while I was standing in the lawn of our office, I saw three men and two women, standing on the high ground, on the backside of our office. One of the men, beckoned to me. I knew them. They were brothers, living in the slums near the deep ravine, called Jail Kanda. I went up to them and asked what brought them .One of them indicated to the younger woman and said, “She is pregnant and she says you did it to her.” I was shocked to hear this. I have never touched this woman but have seen her two or three times out of my neighbor’s hujra.

They said they tried every trick to get it out of her belly. Nothing worked. Now they had come to me to either help them or accept the responsibility. I thought over it in my mind if I go to the Ruler and tell him the whole story, will he believe me or side with that clown type bearer. The answer was, IMPOSSIBLE.

I asked them what the alternative was. They informed me that a woman in Mingora could abort if paid some cash. She was expert abortionist .They demanded Rs.120 which was a great amount for me. But I had no choice. So I went to one of my colleague and apprised him of the problem. He laughed and said I should have been careful. Any how he gifted me the money and I gave to the brothers of that woman. I warned them not to bother me again in this matter. I told them I know the man responsible for getting their sister pregnant. They went silently and never approached me again.
