As a whole I was at peace with every one, my officers, my colleagues and my subordinate staff. The most sorrowful event occurred on 14 September 1987. I had skipped going to office that day. When suddenly I heard the horn of my jeep on road. My heart felt a jolt, what brought the driver here, when every body knew I was on leave. We had a telephone installed in my house.I could have been called.I went outside. Ghulam Qadar tota the driver looked very gloomy. He asked me to get in the jeep without giving any clue. A little beyond our house he told me the XEN was asking me to prepare three helipads in the Grassy Ground, for arrival of the President Zia ul Haq.
Then he said in a hoarse voice,”Wali Swat had died.” That was like a bombshell. I had a sinking feeling at the pet of my stomach. I controlled myself with great effort. We covered the remaining route silently. Reaching the grounds, I saw some twenty road workers, a few bags of lime. We prepared three circular helipads with H figure in the Centre, giving the over to the Security staff and waited silently. But the President came in C. 130, with some 200 V.V.I.Ps, including P.M Junejo,Chairman Senate Ghulam Ishaq and many others. After the funeral, Zia Ul Haq and his entourage accompanied the dead body of Wali Swat to the Royal Graveyard in Saidu Shairf and I returned home.
Wali Swat’s death was the end of a glorious period this part of the world had ever seen. His developmental works in the fields of Education, Health and infrastructure will be remembered for year to come. He will always remain alive in the hearts of patriotic Swatis with respect and love. No one can deny his achievements if he is not blinded with his own venom and unjustified views. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
