It was probably the first week September 2011. I received a call from Mr. Fazl-e Rabi Rahi, asking me to meet him in his office cum bookstore in Mingora. He was not a stranger for me. His Publishing House had published book jointly written by me and Dr. Amir Fayaz Pirkhel in July 2007. I thought he might be planning for another book. So I took my Diaries containing some unpublished material. When I entered his office and handed him over the write ups, he glanced at some pages sporadically and praised my attempts at Urdu verses. But his next question took me by surprise. He asked me to write Columns for Daily Azadi. He was then incharge of Editorial page of this paper.I said I had never attempted such things though I had written a Pushto fiction in Daily Anjam, Peshawar when I was just 14 years old and some letters to the Editors of Pakistan Times and Khyber Mail in 1969. But he insisted and assured me it was very easy. I asked for the topics but he said to write whatever came to my mind.
I wrote my first column “ye dil mein rehne wale” about Shaheed Prince Asfandyar Bacha which appeared in Daily Azadi in September 2011 and thus started my chain of columns. When Rahi Sahib joined “Chand”, I joined him there. He left for UK and handed over the task to his talented pupil, Amjad Ali Sahab. I kept him connected returning back to Azadi. In this way I wrote some 700 plus columns and 1100 plus Urdu Qita’ath published in both the news paper mentioned above.
I wrote mostly about Swat. The feedback was tremendous, beyond our imagination. It reached the farthest Swatis through website, www.zamaswat.com. Unfortunately I could not keep the tempo because of our disturbed connection with the paper. Otherwise, I could still have a lot of potential in me to deliver more write-ups. Any how, I have no regrets in this regard. I had the good luck to meet some great names of writers and learnt a great deal of know-how. Some of them still keep me in high esteem though I do not deserve it. I am obliged to Fazli Rabi Rahi Sahib who introduced me to the world of print media.
In 2018, a volume containing 117 columns titled, “Akse Natamam” was published by Shoiab Sons, Mingora, Rahi Sahib’s Publishing House, known for publishing books of sustainable materials. ‘Akse Natamam’ was my logo of columns. The book was published with the financial grant of my boyhood chum Mr.Habib Rehman who resides in USA and guidance of Ataullah Jan Advocate. I am greatly indebted to both of them.
