During the Swat State era, all educational institutions were affiliated with Peshawar University. Examinations of Class 8th, 10th, Intermediate and bachelor level were held along with other schools and colleges of the province, controlled and supervised by the University.
Our certificates for Matric and Intermediate were signed by the Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar. In the Gazette, the State Schools were separately recorded as State High School Saidu or so and so. So was the case of Jahanzeb College.
Academic staff of the schools was the same as, in the rest of the province, the difference was that of the salaries, as the State resources were limited.
The staff of Jahanzeb College consisted of academics, Administration, Accounts, Laboratories, Botanical Garden, Library and Malis. The last establishment was in the charge of a Steward.
Besides Principal and Vice Principal, the rest of the teaching staff was designated as Professor. There was no conception of Lecturer, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Professor, as was the case in other colleges affiliated to Peshawar University. Each professor was allocated the same type of Bungalow in College Colony, except the Principal whose official residence was more accommodative and large. All the residences had big lawns, without boundary wall but evergreen hedges.
Before the arrival of a proper qualified scholar, an Arabic lecturer Qureshi Sahib taught Islamiat. When Mr. Badshah Zada of Mingora returned from Egypt, acquiring high qualification in religious courses, he was made Dean Faculty of Islamiat. As already explained, every member of teaching staff was called Professor.
They were also mentioned in the annual Order of Precedence or protocol, by designation above the captains of State forces and civil officers of the rank of Hakims. Mr. Badshah Zada was the only Ph.d from Al-Azhar University of Cairo. Shortly another Swati from Kala Kali, Nikpi Khel, returned from Egypt and was posted as Dean Faculty of Islamiat. So the burden of the senior dean was divided between them.
Another famous personality attached to Jahanzeb College was Qazi Hussain Ahmad. He was M.Sc Geography and jobless. His classmate from Shah Derai, Swat was Prof. Wali Muhammad. He was gold medalist. Previously, University of Peshawar had offered him a job with much attractive incentives, but he refused and came to Swat. After a few months he asked Wali Sahib to relieve him because his pay was less than his qualification. Wali Sahib asked him to find a substitute to avoid the student’s loss of time. He called Qazi Sahib to Swat and prepeared him to accept the post in his place. Qazi Sahib loved Swat and agreed. So Wali Mohammad was released to go to Peshawar. Qazi Sahib was granted the Bungalow vacated by Wali Mohammad and thus started teaching at Jahanzeb College. He was a happy-go-lucky type of person and very popular among the students.
